MIKE KING R.I.P. - Stylish nose wheelie by Mike King at 1977 Walker Team demo - Darien Lake, New York. Super-8mm Film Frame Grab from Bruce Walker Film Archives. Michael Arthur King, 54, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 26, 2008. A native Floridian, Mike began skateboarding in the late 1960's and became one of the east coast's early pioneers of the sport. He made his mark in skateboarding in the early 1970's skating the infamous Haulover underpass in North Miami Beach. Mike King is survived by his wife Maria, sons Chris, Richard, and Patrick, and daughter Michelle. His funeral service was held on Friday, August 1, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Palm Bay. In lieu of flowers, an education fund has been set up. Donations can be made out to Patrick S. King c/o Riverside National Bank, 4625 Babcock St.NE, Palm Bay, FL 32905.

SOURVEIN sign to Candlelight Records - Candlelight Records today confirms the signing of North Carolina-based sludge/doom metal band Sourvein. The popular five-piece on tour now through August 11 have recorded a special/limited edition EP titled Imperial Bastard which will see domestic release on September 30. It will be followed by the band's Billy Anderson-produced full-length label debut currently planned for release in early 2009. Formed in 1993, Sourvein relocated to Cape Fear, North Carolina after Hurricane Katrina ravaged their long-time home base. "SK8OLOGY: Fine Art on Skateboards" - ISM: a community project presents an exhibition that combines skateboard counter culture with the world of fine art. FIRST SEASIDE OPEN SURF CONTEST "D" Street, Encinitas, CA. Sept 6th. ASIAN BEACH GAMES - Surfing included in the 1st Asian Beach Games - Olympic Surfing? Soon to be a reality! A major action sports festival, including many sports not on any “normal” Olympic calendar and backed by the Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) will fire up in Bali from October 18-25 this year. The 1st Bali Asian Beach Games, after great efforts by the Indonesian Surfing Federation (ISF) members in Bali, President Bobby Radiasa, National Secretary Oom Arya, Pro Tour Manager Tipi Japric, will include surfing under the Olympic rings.
