The weekend actually began on Thursday morning at the SHUT office on Orchard st. I had gotten into the city early to see Rodney Smith and Bruno Musso talk to Dune about the Shut days for a taping of the Daily Habit show for Fuel TV. From there we made our way to the Autumn bowl for a few hours and finally at Teddy's, a cozy little bar in Greenpoint. The adventure, or misadventure picked up Saturday morning. I met Dune at his Mom's house in Metuchen, NJ and hopped on the train bound for Brooklyn and the KCDC Skate art show 'Gems'. The show featured classic skate decks and art from the ancient 1980s and 1990's. When you are pushing down Metropolitan St in Brooklyn on the night of a KCDC event, its like witnessing a pilgrimage to mecca. And mecca it might as well be. Kcdc has been around for years and is, hands down, the best skate shop a skater could ask for, in any era. With working owners who actually give a shit about skateboarding and skateboarders, an indoor mini ramp, not to mention the actual skate shop and plenty of skate based events to fill out the social calendar. I had a chance to skate for a bit, early in the evening, before the young guns came through and I was relegated to the sidelines with an injured Rodney Torres. Dune, Eli Reed, Zared Bassett, Rob Campbell, Pat Smith and a handle full of other rippers took care of business on the ramp. Throughout the night we got to see Andy Kessler, Jeff Pang, Curtis Rapp, SHUT concierge, Micheal Cohen, RB Umali and Jahmal Williams and Alex Corporan working the event. Eventually, most everyone made there way to the free booze in the back and that's about where the story ends or begins depending on where the night took you. Thanks to the crew at KCDC for another killer event. Especially for letting Dune and I crash on the couch.
