MARCH 24, 2009 - NEW YORK CITY, NY

It has been said that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, but when FuelTV rolled into New York March 24th-26th, they did what they could to keep it roaring loud and clear. New York City has a way of creating legends and its skateboarding contemporaries have, seemingly, been on display for almost a year.  It was last May that Rick Charnowski and Coan Nichol’s Deathbowl to Downtown premiered in the city.  The film, documenting the history of New York skateboarding, also showcased an art exhibit to further tell the stories of the skaters, the artists and the photographers. By day, FuelTV would delve into the streets of New York to document the city’s movers & shakers in the skate world and by night would camp out at Bathhouse Studios where there were classic skateboards and photographs of New York’s skate & surf history as well as original works of art using t-shirts as a medium. There was a also a stage set up to film live performances by Busta Rhymes and The Hold Steady. The New York edition of “The Daily Habit” should be broadcast the week of April 13th. Each night, immediately following the closing of the event or when the open bar was over, most, if not all, of the attendees marched their way down to Max Fish.  Socially, Max Fish is a mix of skaters, friends of skaters, passionados and passionistas and can be just about as grimy of a nightspot as it can be trendy.
All in all it was a perfect way to usher out another long, cold winter in New York City.  There are some places that spring's arrival is met with blossoming flowers, singing birds and long lines for Sunday Brunch.  In New York it’s the sound of skateboarding in the streets and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
